Music to focus
Photo by David ClodeI like to work with music but here, in my co-working, we all use headphones to not disturb. Using headphones makes the music very present and in the last few weeks I had to stop playing it because it was breaking my concentration.
But this week I've changed my strategy. I chose music that potentiates my concentration. I'm a big fan of Brian Eno and my first move was to choose ambient music. I took this guide and listened to some records (and as bonus, I've discovered Laurie Spiegel). My concentration problem solved. A couple of highlights:
- Music for Airports: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNwYtllyt3Q
- The Expanding Universe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KD8hkveKmYQ
- Desintegration loops: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjnAE5go9dI
But after some days I remembered how much I love the minimalistic music. So I start to listen to Steve Reich, Terry Riley and friends. With this music I was able to get focused for longer periods. My recommendation: anything from Steve Reich. Some examples:
